Our Approach

How the programmes are structured

Each programme at Hikmah Saujana is built around a specific type of engagement — not a general survey of financial principles, but a focused examination of the documents and decisions that are most relevant at a given point in life.

The introductory course centres on a single written exercise. The statements course moves through one document type per week. The pre-retirement engagement unfolds over five months, with monthly private sessions and a written review at its midpoint.

1

Enquiry and intake conversation

Write to the team. We describe the current schedule and discuss which programme, if any, is a reasonable fit.

2

Enrolment and fee payment

A place is confirmed once payment is received. Group sizes are kept small, so places are limited per intake.

3

Sessions and written summaries

Facilitated sessions are held in person in Kuala Lumpur. A written summary follows each session.

4

Closing summary and follow-up access

The programme closes with a written summary. Pre-retirement participants retain written follow-up access for six months.

A First Postcard to Yourself
Programme 1 · Introductory · 3 Weeks RM 540

A First Postcard to Yourself: An Inventory

A three-week introductory course built around a single careful exercise — writing, slowly, one structured note to one's future self that covers present holdings, recurring commitments, and standing financial intentions. The postcard is the artefact of the course: a personal document meant to be kept and revisited once a year. Sessions are held in a small group with one facilitator, and written summaries are distributed afterwards.

  • Three facilitated group sessions
  • Structured exercise produces a personal, reusable artefact
  • Written summary after each session
  • No prior financial knowledge required

Best suited for

Those who have never taken stock of their own financial position and want a calm, structured place to begin.

Programme 2 · Practical · 6 Weeks RM 1,560

Reading Statements and Disclosures Plainly

A six-week course on reading the everyday paperwork of personal finance in plain English — bank statements, EPF statements, fund factsheets, insurance policy schedules, unit trust statements, and tax slips. Each week is dedicated to one document type, walking through the items that most often go unread: the charges, the exclusions, the fine-print columns. Useful for anyone who would like to feel quietly competent in front of their own financial paperwork.

  • Six weekly sessions — one document type each
  • Covers EPF, Takaful schedules, LHDN slips, fund factsheets
  • Plain English — technical terms defined as they arise
  • Written summary and reference sheet after each session

Best suited for

Those who receive financial statements regularly but find that sections of them remain unclear — and who would like that to change.

Monthly private sessions, a midway review, and a written closing summary. Single-track — one participant per engagement.

  • Five monthly private sessions
  • Full review of EPF, savings, insurance, healthcare provisioning
  • Midway review session included
  • Written closing summary delivered at end of engagement
  • Six months written follow-up access at no additional charge

Best suited for

Shared Standards

What all three programmes hold in common

Participant privacy

Information shared in sessions is held in strict confidence and not passed to any third party under any circumstance.

No products, ever

No financial products are recommended, sold, or referred across any of the three programmes. The engagement is educational only.

Written summaries provided

Every facilitated session produces a brief written record distributed only to that session's participants — a reference to keep.

Materials updated each intake

Programme materials are reviewed before each cohort to reflect the latest EPF, LHDN, and Takaful regulatory positions.

Plain English throughout

Technical terms are defined when first introduced and revisited as needed. Questions are welcomed at any point in the session.

Small, considered groups

Group sizes are kept deliberately small so each participant can ask personal questions without feeling exposed in a large room.
